Installation Of Communal TV Distribution Systems - TV over CAT5

We installed
a custom specified system into this new build 80 bedroom Hotel.
The heart of a Hotel TV system lies tucked away from the guests rooms, usually
in the Communications Room.
This hotel was no different, and we installed the TV Head End system into
one of our 19" rack cabinets.
The Digital
TV System is housed in the equipment rack and feeds out to each room in
the hotel via cat5e cable.
Each guest can
choose which TV or Audio channel they want by selecting a button on the
TV remote.
The TV signals are connected into 32" or 40" LCD flat Screens
which are all either pole or wall mounted.
Cat5e patch cables are routed to the adjacent racks to connect to the buildings main Structured Cabling System for distribution to the rest of the Hotel thereby feeding all the TV screens.
The customer
requested from us a 16 channel TV system, which which we designed and built
specifying 'TV over Cat5' panels from the SCION range, for whom we are dealers.
The SCION equipment gives good quality, reliable results every time we use
it. Each custom install is different and therefore we can tailor the design
and exact components to suit the customer requirements.
Here
we specified a 16 channel input with 96 TV outputs.
All TV sets get the same high quality picture regardless of distance from
the head end.
The picture is composite video with stereo audio on all channels, which
originate from either Sky Satellite or Freeview DTT receivers connected
in the equipment rack.
We also
included a Hotel information channel as part of our system.
This channel give guests information over several active pages, about the
hotel including
telephone nmbers of all the departments, a TV channel line-up list,
pictures of the hotel facilities and all with BBC News 24 TV in one corner
of each page along with sound.
This 'Hotel Information Package' as we like to call it, can be altered and
updated as often as the Hotel manger requires from his desktop computer.

Audio
System
In
total 80 bedrooms have had Hi-fi quality ceiling speakers installed.
These in turn are fed via a state of the art 'A-Bus' (tm) Audio hub wired
with cat5e cable
and fed to a wall mounted flush keypad volume control and amplifer system.

A
pair of these speakers were installed flush to the ceiling, with the flush
mounted keypad controlling the volume.
A remote control was provided for each room so enable control from in bed!

This system
feeds many different Digital TV channels.
Signals are distributed via the CAT6 structured cabling network to various
Plasma screens situated throughout the office, reception and meeting room
areas
.
Notice
the special equipment in use to enable access to this specially designed aircraft
hanger type building.
We installed a satellite dish together with a UHF Television Aerial onto the
outside of the building.
If you fly from Luton Airport you will see this building on your left hand side as you enter the airport, Take a quick look!
We installed
satellite dishes up on the roof of an 8x storey building to receive signals
from 3x different satellites.
13 East, 19 East and 22 West.
Multicore cables fed the signals from the dishes and into a cabinet housing
multi 'IF' amplifiers.
From here the cables continued down to the 3rd floor where the 10 cable backbone
entered into another cabinet (pictured below), which housed a multiswitch
arrangement for distribution to the various satellite receiver points.

The final part of this particular contract involved the fitting of these broadcast
quality satellite receivers which we supplied custom made to suit the customers
own requirements, (SDI Video output on BNC connectors and Balanced Audio via
XLR connectors).

Space was very tight on this particular site, so we
installed the SMATV system into a 19" rack bay.
Satellite receivers were installed at the front of the rack, and all the technical
stuff installed at the back.
In this way everything remained accessible from one side or the other.

This picture shows shelve mounted SKY digiboxes on the right and wall mounted
digital Satellite Receivers at the top.
Individual channel modulators underneath, and 4 more normal receivers with
decoders on the left.
Monitor TV is part of the installation. With 37 TV channels plus FM radio,
Fibre Optic links to other buildings, separate IRS feeds in each room, makes
this system the ultimate.
You can do no more than this!
A
fully channelised system. Each UHF channel has it's own Filter and Amplifier
to assure clean signals throughout the system.
First cone off the immediate area surrounding
the build site. Then, build up temporary ground stand for the dish to sit
on while I build it.

Then Fit the parts of the dish together
Next complete the web structure by fitting the rim. Now it is ready to fit
the 'petals' that will make up the dish face.
Now put the dish away inside the building ready for tomorrow when the crane will come to lift it onto the roof.
Here comes the crane that will lift the dish up onto the roof
A
view from up on the roof.
Here it comes
Here comes the 3.1Metre satellite dish, looking like the full moon in spring.
Up
on the roof things are getting more exciting as we contemplate our next set
of manoeuvres.
The Dish is lowered by the crane carefully onto it's mounting mast.
Now
all that has to be done is line up this
motorised dish to track the arc, (that is the line of satellites as they appear
in the sky).
This dish was completed by fitting a Quattro output LNB to feed a rack of
multiswitches down in the communications room. However it is shown here with
a C120 universal LNB which was used to line up the dish using our spectrum
analyser.
Where
neatness is the mark of a professional system, CDI exceed.
CDI offer an expert service to customers requiring a reliable and high quality
installation.

A
CDI quality IRS Head End system is shown here after just being installed into
a loft space of a block of flats in London.
As you can see, the cables to each flat and the loop feeds onto the next multiswitch
in the next loft, are yet to be connected.

You can see the cable that we use is a 'Solid Foam' type, with a 'Crimp on' type 'F' plug.
Quality!

A fitted 'F' plug.

Engineer Installs a Multisat Dish array, used to feed a 9 wire 'Integrated Reception System'.
Note the use of a Pro Safety Harness, Climbing Rope, Karabiner, and Ladder tied to the wall.
Safety was a particular issue here as the install involved using both hands at once on the dish, leaving only the feet and the safety gear to suspend the engineer off the wall at a working height of 30' in the air!
